3rd edition · Chão das Feiteiras, Madeira
Two days of hikes, talks, workshops, concerts and food up in the mountains — showing that wild places can be enjoyed, not just protected from a distance.
Open call · Art Zone
Two installations in the middle of the forest.
We are looking for up to two artists or collectives to conceive and present installations and visual artworks in the festival's Art Zone, on 10 and 11 October at Chão das Feiteiras.
Applying is free and open to national and international visual artists, working alone or as a collective. The works are made to stand outdoors, preferably in sustainable or recycled materials. Each applicant submits one proposal, either unpublished or adapted to the festival's context.
An application has five parts:
- Identification — name, contact details and a short biography or portfolio.
- Written description — what the work is, and how it connects to nature, sustainability and community.
- Visual material — sketches, renders or photographs of previous work.
- Technical sheet — dimensions, materials, space, power and installation.
- Budget — an estimate of production costs, where applicable.
A jury makes the selection, weighing artistic quality and originality, fit with the theme, technical feasibility in the available space, impact on the public, and the sustainability of the materials. Assembly, dismantling and transport of the work are the artist's responsibility.
What it is
A festival that celebrates the island's nature — and teaches you to use it.
ECHOO began as an idea that fitted what the island was already doing: Madeira had a Nature Festival, and what was missing was to celebrate it inside nature — in the middle of it, not from a distance.
Since then it has been two days a year at Chão das Feiteiras, where hikes, talks, workshops, concerts, art and sustainable food all mix together. It is not a wellness retreat. It is a place to learn how to be in nature without weighing on it.
We are an independent event, part of the Festival da Natureza da Madeira programme and funded by the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Environment and Culture.

Where
Chão das Feiteiras
A high plateau in the heart of the island, ringed by heathland and levada paths. It is not in central Funchal — and that is exactly what makes the festival what it is.
Accessibility. The site is uneven natural terrain and is not accessible to people with reduced mobility. We are happy to help you plan a visit — write to us before you travel.
Shared transport. Buses will run from Funchal with advance booking. Coming by bus or shared ride is how we keep cars off the mountain.
Bring the essentials. You will be at altitude: pack a warm layer, walking shoes and water. Reusable cups are handed out on arrival.
Where else to find us
The festival does not end after two days.
Between editions, the conversation carries on via Instagram and the podcast.
